Veneers and Crowns

Our skilled cosmetic dentists provide personalized consultations and design the best course of action—whether veneers or crowns—to achieve your goals.

Veneers are incredibly thin, bespoke shells that go over teeth to quickly improve their appearance. On the other hand, crowns restore both function and beauty to teeth that have been damaged or weakened by providing complete covering. Both veneers and crowns provide minimally invasive treatments that successfully address a variety of dental problems, such as discoloration, alignment problems, or damage like chipped or fractured teeth.

  • Individualized advice for specially designed plans.
  • Veneers immediately improve appearance.
  • Crowns return form and function.
  • Less intrusive methods to maximize adaptability.

What’s the difference between a veneer and a crown?

A veneer is a very thin coating made of porcelain or another material that is frequently less than one millimeter thick. It forms a link with the front of your natural tooth. On the other hand, a crown—which is around 2 mm thick—covers the whole tooth, requiring a larger reduction. Crowns can be made entirely of porcelain, entirely of metal, or porcelain fused to a metal alloy (PFM). The state of your teeth and the particular problems you want to fix—such as stained, chipped, cracked, broken, decaying, weakened, or crooked teeth—will determine which veneer or crown is best for you.

  • A layer of thin veneer with front bonding.
  • The thick crown that encloses the whole tooth.
  • Material options for crowns.
  • The state of the teeth determines the choice.

Two Types of Veneers

Porcelain Veneers

These are thin, ceramic shells that are highly durable, stain-resistant, and closely mimic the appearance of natural teeth. Porcelain veneers typically require some tooth enamel removal before placement.

Composite Veneers

These veneers are made from tooth-colored composite resin material. They are more affordable than porcelain veneers and can often be placed with minimal or no tooth reduction.

Dental crown

A Dental crown, often simply referred to as a “crown,” is a custom-made dental restoration that covers and encases the entire visible portion of a tooth above the gumline. Crowns are used to strengthen, protect, and restore a tooth that is damaged, weakened, or cosmetically compromised. They are one of the most common and versatile dental treatments and can significantly improve a tooth’s appearance and function.

Crowns are used to protect and strengthen teeth that have been weakened by extensive decay, large fillings, or fractures.

They are employed to restore the shape, size, and appearance of a tooth that has been significantly damaged or worn down.

Cosmetic Enhancement

Crowns can be used for cosmetic purposes to improve the color, shape, and alignment of teeth.

Crowns can be made from various materials, including.

Porcelain crowns provide a natural appearance and are often used for front teeth.

Metal (e.g., gold or silver alloys)

Metal crowns are highly durable and are often used for back teeth.

Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM)

These crowns combine the strength of metal with the aesthetics of porcelain.

All-ceramic or all-porcelain

These crowns offer excellent aesthetics and are a popular choice for front teeth.

  • The process of getting a crown typically involves two dental visits. During the first visit, the dentist prepares the tooth by removing any damaged or decayed tissue and reshaping it to accommodate the crown.
  • An impression of the prepared tooth is taken to create a custom crown.
  • A temporary crown may be placed on the tooth to protect it while the permanent crown is being fabricated.
  • During the second visit, the permanent crown is placed and securely bonded to the tooth using dental cement.
