LANAP – laser therapy

A state-of-the-art development in the management of periodontal disease, LANAP (Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure) laser therapy is changing the way we approach gum health. Using a highly precise Nd: YAG laser, diseased gum tissue is targeted and removed during this minimally invasive process, leaving healthy tissue unaffected. Through the targeted elimination of microorganisms and injured tissue, LANAP not only makes patients feel more comfortable but also speeds up the healing process.

Traditional Metal Braces

High-grade stainless steel braces, the most common type, offer visibility but high effectiveness.

Ceramic Braces

Similar to metal braces, ceramic braces use clear or tooth-colored materials for a less visible option at a higher cost.

Lingual Braces

Virtually invisible as they are placed behind teeth, lingual braces can be challenging to clean and adjust.

Invisalign

Clear plastic aligners make Invisalign a popular alternative, providing virtually invisible teeth straightening with the added benefit of easy removal for eating and cleaning.

Benefits of LANAP

LANAP therapy offers numerous benefits in the treatment of gum disease:
  • Pain alleviation and expedited recuperation: in contrast to conventional surgery.
  • Accurate excision of ill tissue: preserves the integrity of healthy tissue.
  • Encourages the regeneration of tissue: promotes the reattachment of gums.
  • Less intrusive, less bleeding: reduced edema when using LANAP.
  • Protects teeth from periodontal disease: stops possible loss.
  • The antimicrobial qualities of lasers: reduced chance of infection.
  • Enhances both functionality and appearance: keeps the gums in a healthy state.

Laser usage during Root Canal

An improved endodontic technique that guarantees accuracy and hygienic conditions is the use of lasers such as Er:YAG during Root Canal Therapy (RCT). With minimal damage to good tissue and complete cleaning and contouring of the canals, the laser accurately eliminates infected pulp from tooth roots. Because of its antibacterial qualities, patients get fewer infections and have less discomfort and faster healing.
  • Accuracy and improved disinfection:
  • Precision in removing infected pulp:
  • Complete canal shape and cleaning:

LANAP uses and functionalities

LANAP (Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure) is a versatile dental laser therapy primarily used for the treatment of periodontal (gum) disease. However, it has several other applications in dentistry, showcasing the adaptability and effectiveness of laser technology. Here are various uses of LANAP: (only 5 needed)
  • Treatment of Periodontal Disease: LANAP is primarily employed for the treatment of gum disease, including gingivitis and periodontitis. It removes infected and inflamed gum tissue, eliminates bacteria, and promotes the reattachment of healthy tissue to the tooth's root surface.
  • Pocket Reduction: LANAP helps reduce pocket depth in periodontal pockets, which are spaces that form between the gums and teeth as a result of gum disease. Reducing pocket depth improves gum health and prevents further progression of the disease..
  • Scaling and Root Planning (SRP):LANAP can be used in conjunction with scaling and root planning, a deep cleaning procedure that removes calculus (tartar) from tooth surfaces and roots. The laser helps in disinfecting and sealing the treated areas.
  • Gingival Recontouring: LANAP can be used for reshaping the gumline to improve the aesthetics of the smile. It is often used in cosmetic dentistry to address issues like a "gummy smile."
  • Treatment of Peri-Implantitis: LANAP can be utilized to treat inflammation and infection around dental implants, a condition known as peri-implantitis. It helps disinfect the implant site and promote tissue healing.
  • Soft Tissue Procedures: LANAP can be employed for various soft tissue procedures, including frenectomy (removing the frenulum between the upper lip and gum), crown lengthening (exposing more of a tooth's surface for restorations), and tissue biopsy.
  • Pain and Cold Sore Treatment: LANAP can be used to reduce pain and promote healing in cold sores and aphthous ulcers (canker sores).
  • Biopsy: LANAP can be used to obtain a soft tissue biopsy, which is essential for diagnosing potentially serious oral conditions such as oral cancer.
  • Hemostasis: The laser's ability to coagulate blood vessels makes it useful for achieving hemostasis (control of bleeding) during various dental procedures.
  • Desensitization: LANAP can be used to reduce tooth sensitivity by sealing open dentinal tubules.
  • Root Canal Disinfection: In endodontics (root canal therapy), LANAP can help disinfect and clean the root canals.
  • Apicoectomy: LANAP can be employed in periapical surgery (apicoectomy) to remove the tip of a tooth's root and treat persistent infections.
  • Gum Depigmentation: For patients with melanotic (Dark) gums, the lasers offer an excellent solution in lightening the gum color to a more pinkish, esthetic hue.
